Each piece is made using traditional clay mold techniques and assembled with careful attention to detail, ensuring that every ornament is unique.
• Dimensions: 3 1/4" W x 4 1/4" H x 2 1/4" D
• Material: Terra Cotta or White Slip Clay
• Handcrafted by: NM Artist JBower
• Lighting: Color-changing, Battery Operated, Twist-On LED Light
About the Creation Process:
Each Spirit of the Desert gift is handcrafted from Terra Cotta or white slip clay. Liquid clay is poured into a hollow plaster mold, which pulls moisture from the clay. After a few minutes, excess clay is removed, leaving a hollow shell. Once hardened, windows and doors are cut out, and a high-temperature wire is attached for hanging. The soft clay is then baked to remove moisture, turning it into fragile greenware. After firing in a kiln at 1600°F, the piece becomes durable. Final assembly involves hand-painting and attaching crafted parts such as the nativity figures, greenery, and other decorative elements.
Fun Fact(s):
• The San Miguel Church in Santa Fe is the oldest church in the U.S., and this ornament pays homage to its historic significance.
• Each ornament is signed by NM artist JBower, ensuring that it’s a one-of-a-kind piece.
